Having been on her therapeutic journey, Elizabeth uncovered the enormous benefits of talk therapy in times of crisis and the importance of developing strong self-awareness skills and how to process emotions. She firmly believes that therapy helps people increase their self-confidence and develop the skills needed to handle life's harder moments. Her journey as a therapist began with her teaching and researching Dance Movement Therapy for people living with Dementia, Parkinson's Disease and other physical disabilities. She soon began to understand that along with the movement aspect of classes, one major component that led to students experiencing a positive change in their lives was the connection she and other teachers would build with them. These connections helped people feel they could open up, share and feel that they are listened to. This discovery led Elizabeth to seek a way that she could help people make positive changes in a more direct way, which encouraged her on the path to counselling psychology.
Elizabeth is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Elizabeth is trained in various modalities, drawing mainly from her training in Trauma-Informed Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Somatic Therapy. Elizabeth's background in Psychology and Kinesiology led her to specialize in building the connection between the mind and body to understand people's issues better and heal them holistically. Through talk therapy along with improved emotional regulation, distress tolerance, communication and mindfulness skills, Elizabeth hopes to help people learn to manage their problems and mental health issues. Her specialties include helping people reduce the intensity of their mental and physical symptoms, improving self-awareness and esteem, and assisting people in processing trauma and hard life transitions. In session, Elizabeth works to create a safe and collaborative space that focuses on an individualized approach to ensure the therapeutic process fits the client's needs and strengths.
